The Quality Agreement
To qualify for the network, the gardens must meet a set of criteria laid down in a quality agreement.
Firstly, they must be significant in creative (origin and distinctive features of the site as a whole), botanical (plant diversity and abundance), landscape (design and architecture of the garden) and educational terms (visitor-oriented
information). Even though the garden is usually part of a cultural site,
its quality alone determines its inclusion in the network. It must be a tourist attraction in its own right, regardless of the significance of the cultural site to which it belongs.
According to the agreement, the site must guarantee the maintenance of both the plant and landscape features as well as the immediate surroundings and the external setting. Each garden has qualified maintenance staff who regularly take part in joint internal network training sessions. These training initiatives also provide an opportunity for the exchange of expertise between the various gardens.
Knowledge transfer plays a major role: information boards, leaflets, guided tours led by gardeners and workshops
for children showcase the botanical and landscape gardening features of each garden.
The gardens in the network offer visitors numerous amenities: car parks, toilet facilities, bilingual staff and documentation (German-French), seating areas, a garden shop, a garden bistro, etc.
A comprehensive programme of events brings the gardens to life all year round: special exhibitions, themed events (flower festivals, gardening courses, concerts...), participation in national events (Month of Gardens, Heritage Days, etc.). Further information can be found in our events programme
