Gardens with their own unique charm
Ein neuartiges Konzept
The concept of ‘Gardens Without Borders’ is innovative in more ways than one. Generally, garden networks are formed from existing gardens. These gardens, however, have all been newly created or redesigned according to the plans of highly talented garden designers renowned both at home and abroad.
The gardens belonging to Gardens Without Borders all have a specific theme: Garden of the Senses, Baroque Garden, Roman Gardens, Garden for Peace… Their planning is entrusted to landscape architects: Hella Kreiselmeyer, the project’s initiator, Cornelia Schmidt, Louis Benech, and also Philippe Niez and Franck Neau.
As the Gardens Without Borders were involved right from the planning stage, the gardens complement one another naturally.
Gardens Without Borders abroad...
The idea of Gardens Without Borders is slowly beginning to grow beyond its own borders and is being emulated all over the world. This unique project is often cited as an example.
The policy of Gardens Without Borders was presented in 2008 at the first conference on garden tourism in Malmö, Sweden.
Continuing the tradition of Gardens Without Borders’ participation in the festival at Chaumont-sur-Loire in 2003, the garden artists from Bitche were also able to take part in the second edition of this festival in 2008.
In March 2009, Gardens Without Borders was invited as Europe’s representative to the conference in Toronto, Canada, on the theme ‘Gardens and Tourism – A Blooming Partnership’, which was attended by several hundred representatives of Canadian gardens.
In addition, the gardens in the network maintain further bilateral contacts, such as the Garden of Aromas in Laquenexy, which collaborates with Japan, Canada (Montreal Botanical Garden) and the UK. In 2010, the Garden of Aromas in Laquenexy presented the first Native American garden outside North America, entitled “Ohtehra, Voyagez en Territoire
Amérindien!”
