Nevertheless, towards the end of the 19th and at the beginning of the 20th century, under the influence of the Nancy School, Lorraine was a major centre for renowned landscape architects such as Lemoine, Crousse and the Simon-Louis brothers. Moreover, the works of Félix Crousse and Victor Lemoine are still internationally recognised today. However, the two successive wars not only left their mark on the region but, sadly, also decimated the tree populations of that era. One of the aims of Gardens Without Borders is to breathe new life into the rich horticultural tradition of eastern France and the Saarland. In doing so, the network draws on long-standing experience and high standards of quality, whilst at the same time championing a modern approach to gardening.
